Non-Hermetic Relations

Local Mundanes

The peasants in Buttermere are aware of the covenant and many of their people work there and its presence has allowed the village to grow. Due to hard work on the part of Thressa and careful management of the covenant servants and grogs, the villagers, though still a little wary of the covenant, are for the most part quite comfortable with its presence.

English Nobility

For the last twenty years or so, Scelus and Livia have been taking part in a challenge involving the mundane politics of England and Wales. They concentrated on the court of King Alfred the Great, and participated in his attempt to increase the learning and scholarship of the clergy and the court. So far, it has been a fairly minor side-challenge, involving Alfred's favour and information gleaned at court, but with Alfred's death (899) and the succession of his son Edward, both were vying for influence with the young King. Recently, Livia has taken to attending the court of the ruler of the Danelaw in York, as seeing war approaching, she and Scelus want to hedge their bets and make sure they retain influence with whoever wins. Of course, this is skating on very thin ice indeed as far as the Code is concerned but both are incredibly discreet (both taking new identities for this game), never using magic, except to sever arcane connections and change appearance, and, for the moment, not using this influence to harm any other covenants (though the temptation to see the Diedne covenant shattered may prove too much in the end...)

The Fae

There is a local fae forest at the end of the valley and for many years the covenant and the local fae lord were effectively conducting a guerilla war which had threatened the covenant and seemed destined to ultimately destory it. Placidus and Aequus tried to negotiate with them, but they often made mistakes in etiquette, leaving an extremely uneasy peace. To alleviate the situation, Mico joined the covenant and since has built bridges between the two communities so that, while they are not over-friendly, they co-exist in a spirit of cooperation.
